Playing The Long Game

This year my husband and I celebrated 10 years of marriage. At our anniversary dinner we talked and reminisced about the past ten years — our work transitions, family changes, weddings, divorces, births and passings. And then we talked about the next ten years. What are we going to be celebrating 10 years from now? What will be the conversations and reminiscings at our 20 year anniversary?

Retirement, debt freedom, a new knee, travel and a new business all came up in the conversation.

It was wonderful to both recap the past ten years and imagine the future decade. All of the goals we imagined are things we are actively planning and putting energy into now. Small or large efforts that over time, we expect to bear fruit.

On December 31, 2019, musician Lizzo tweeted out:

2009 was the year my daddy died 2009 was the year I lived in my car & cried myself to sleep on thanksgiving 2019 is the year my album & song went #1. 2019 is the year I told my mama I can buy her a house Anything can happen in a decade Tomorrow is the beginning of ur Anything https://twitter.com/lizzo/status/1212132621666226176

In the season of the instant, the 40 day challenge, the fast track program, reboot and the lose 10 pounds in 10 days; it is good to be reminded of the long game.

If tomorrow is the beginning of your anything, what steps will you take to bring you closer to your ten year plan?
